Position Summary

As a Heavy Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of a diverse fleet of heavy machinery, including excavators and dump trucks, construction equipment, and fleet vehicles. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Safety and Maintenance:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Perform regular inspections of tools and equipment to ensure they are functioning safely.

Diagnostic and Repair:

  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic systems, brake systems, electrical systems, and more.
  • Identify and address mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and industry best practices.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.

Overhaul and Rebuild:

  • Disassemble and reassemble heavy equipment components to restore them to optimal condition.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts, ensuring proper fit and function.
  • Test and adjust equipment to meet manufacturer specifications.

Fabrication and Welding:

  • Utilize welding and fabrication techniques to repair or modify equipment.
  • Construct custom parts as needed.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts and other material handling equipment, safely and efficiently.
  • Transport materials from the TRICO shop to TRICO jobsites.

Basic Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic with a background in maintaining diagnosing, and repairing all vehicle makes and models as well as gasoline, diesel engines, equipment hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Class A CDL with current CDL Medical Certification.
  • Experience with oxy/fuel cutting and arc welding, both stick and wire feed.
  • Be able to work evenings and weekends when necessary to keep equipment running.

Or 

  • An equivalent combination of experience and education. 

Preferred Qualifications 

·        Experience with and understanding of State/Federal laws specific to construction equipment and heavy trucks.

·        Airconditioning systems experience to include troubleshooting and repair.

·        DOT inspection qualified.

Work Environment/Physical Demands Requirements

·        Required to climb, walk, stand, squat, bend, or stoop for extended periods of time. 

·        Lifts objects weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with or without assistance. 

·        Required to work in confined spaces and at extreme heights. 

·        Work outdoors in all weather conditions, in heavy or high-speed traffic, with regular exposure to hazardous materials, noise, fumes, dirt, dust, and cold. 

 

Compensation

The pay scale for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic position is $30.00 - $45.00 per hour.

 

Schedule

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is a full-time position, with a schedule of Tuesday to Friday from 7am to 5pm. This position may also require evening work and weekends to ensure equipment and vehicles are functioning properly.

 

Vehicle and Equipment

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be provided with a tool truck and gas card for work related transportation and fuel.
