Position Summary
The Commercial Construction Superintendent (Superintendent) is responsible for leading safe, high quality, on time, and cost effective field execution of assigned building projects. Working closely with the Project Manager, this role manages daily onsite construction activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements, TRICO standards, and client expectations.
The Superintendent coordinates field operations from project start through completion, directing self perform and subcontracted work, maintaining production flow, and addressing issues that impact safety, schedule, quality, or cost. This role serves as TRICO's primary field representative and reports to the General Superintendent.
The Construction Superintendent leads Foremen and TRICO craft employees by setting expectations, reinforcing accountability, and supporting performance and development. This role is accountable for jobsite safety, quality control, schedule performance, workforce productivity, and coordination with subcontractors and project partners.
Through reliable execution and sound judgment, the Construction Superintendent contributes to strong project outcomes, effective field teams, and TRICO's long term success in support of TRICO's mission of Building Beyond the Building.
What You'll Do
Safety Leadership & Risk Management
• Develop and enforce project specific safety plans, and build a strong safety culture across crews and subcontractors.
• Oversee JHAs, orientations, inspections, and incident reporting, exercising stop work authority when needed.
Project Planning, Scheduling & Logistics
• Develop and execute project schedules, sequencing, and logistics plans in partnership with the Project Manager.
• Coordinate daily activities of crews, subcontractors, and equipment, and adjust plans to protect schedule and productivity.
Self-Perform Operations Oversight (Concrete, Carpentry & PEMB)
• Lead all self-perform concrete, carpentry, and PEMB operations in accordance with contract documents and TRICO quality standards.
• Provide technical direction to foremen and crews and coordinate self-perform work with subcontractors and other trades.
Quality Management
• Set quality expectations and inspect work to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and TRICO standards.
• Direct corrective actions, lead punch list completion, and support warranty and closeout activities.
Financial & Productivity Management
• Own jobsite profitability by managing labor productivity, equipment utilization, and sequencing efficiency.
• Track budgets, cost reports, labor hours, and production, and identify opportunities to reduce cost without sacrificing safety or quality.
Subcontractor & Supplier Management
• Lead subcontractor coordination and assess performance, staffing, and compliance with contract requirements.
• Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, and support the Project Manager on payment application review.
Crew Leadership & Development
• Lead, train, and mentor foremen and craft employees, and support performance management and development.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and pride in workmanship.
Communication & Client Relations
• Serve as TRICO's primary field representative, maintaining strong relationships with clients, owners, and project partners.
• Keep a detailed daily project diary and support issue resolution through construction and warranty.
What We're Looking For
• Proven leadership experience directing self perform crews and subcontractors on commercial or industrial construction projects.
• Strong working knowledge of concrete, carpentry, and pre engineered metal building (PEMB) construction methods.
• Demonstrated commitment to jobsite safety, including experience leading safety programs and holding crews and subcontractors accountable.
• Solid understanding of scheduling, sequencing, and production planning for complex field operations.
• Financial acumen with experience managing labor productivity, budgets, and cost reports.
• Ability to lead teams through ambiguity, solve complex field challenges, and adapt to shifting project conditions.
• Strong communication skills with clients, field teams, subcontractors, and executive leadership.
Basic Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing self perform concrete, carpentry, and/or PEMB scopes.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites as required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and other construction technology and project management tools.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using Autodesk Build, or equivalent, for project and field documentation.
• Familiarity with Bid2Win / Track, or equivalent, for production tracking.
• Familiarity/experience using Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC), or equivalent, for project scheduling and controls.
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field.
Work Environment / Physical Demand Requirements
• Required to climb, walk, stand, bend, or stoop for extended periods of time.
• Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
• Required to work in confined spaces and at extreme heights with proper safety equipment provided by TRICO.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with regular exposure to hazardous materials, noise, fumes, dirt, dust, and cold.
Location
This is a traveling field position supporting TRICO project sites. Assignment location will vary based on active project needs. New hire and trainings are based out of TRICO’s home office located in Burlington, Washington.
Travel
This position requires regular and extended travel to jobsites in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Arizona, or other states as project and client needs require. Extended stays away from home may be necessary depending on project location and duration.
Vehicle & Equipment
TRICO provides a company vehicle and fuel, along with the tools and resources needed to perform the role effectively.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $144,268 depending on experience and qualifications, plus a travel stipend of up to $2,500 per month.
